Obituary for Norma Delores Smith (Allen)

Norma Delores Smith (Allen)
Norma Delores Smith, better known as Delores, was born in Seaview, North Hampton County, Virginia on March 16, 1933. The first of three children to William and Margaret (Wescott) Allen.
Delores spent her early years on the Eastern Shore in Virginia before settling in Harlem with her mother and two brothers, Reginald and James. This is where she met her life-long friends Margaret, Eloise, Vera, Delores and Arlene. She graduated from Central Commercial High School, now known as Norman Thomas and began her career as a Data Analyst at Alfred Politz Research with friends Williemae Anderson and Billie Miller. During this time, she met and married her first husband, Victor Maurice Scott and had two sons, Victor Duane and Rory Michael.
She left the workforce in 1968 to devote her fulltime efforts to raising her children Duane, Rory, Michele and Monique. In 1983, she settled in Neptune New Jersey where she married William R. Smith. Delores was a fun-loving child of God who was an active member in churches wherever she lived. This included Church of The Master in Harlem, New York, Mother Liberty AME in Jackson, Tennessee, Saint Stephen’s AME and Martin Luther King Presbyterian in Neptune, New Jersey where she was an ordained Deacon. Delores had many hobbies and interests including listening to music, singing, dancing, cooking, traveling, ceramics and horticulture. She also enjoyed photography, which she used to document and share her family and friends’ rich history. Delores was the “Big Cousin” always taking all the children in the family on great (free) adventures. She loved all of the children in her biological and extended family. In fact, she loved all children.
Delores spent her last year in Wilmington, Delaware enjoying her grandchildren. She departed this world peacefully on Thursday, May 18, 2017 in Season’s Hospice in Newark, Delaware after a brief illness.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her step father, Elmer Broadnax; her brother, James; her son-in-law, Darren Goodman and her husband, William Smith.
Delores leaves to cherish her precious and loving memory, her sons, Victor and Rory Scott; daughters, Michele Goodman and Monique Feeny; daughter-in-law, Sheryl White-Scott; son-in-law, Brian Feeny; grandchildren, Maren & Mia Scott, Conner, Cooper & Chloe Feeny; brother and sister-in-law, Reginald and Renata Allen; aunt, Martha Malloy; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, Godchildren, friends and church members.
