Obituary for Robin Martin

Robin Martin
Robin Martin was born on March 12, 1960 in the village of Port Chester, New York at United Hospital. On Friday December 22, 2017, God called Robin home from his labor to his reward after a long illness.
Robin, affectionately known as “Bubba” and “Big Rob,” was educated in Port Chester, New York. He graduated from Port Chester High School where he was an excellent football player for which he received several varsity letters.
Robin’s favorite past-times were vast and varied, and sports topped the list. He followed sports closely, with the Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Knicks being his favorite professional teams. Those who knew him know how much he enjoyed debating about football – which teams were the best and which players had the best skills. He recently developed an affection for cigars, and enjoying the camaraderie of friends at his local cigar bar.
For all his many interests, there was nothing that swelled Robin with pride more than watching his son, Torrian as he played various sports. From Mount Vernon Little League, Babe Ruth Baseball, and St. Ursula Basketball to football, baseball and basketball at Mount Saint Michael Academy, Robin was there for all of it.
Robin accepted Christ at an early age and his family attended the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Port Chester, New York for many years. While the family is dispersed across the country, Mount Zion will always be the family church for the Martin family.
Robin graduated from the Police Training Academy in December 1985, and began his career in law enforcement in the City of Mount Vernon, New York. He transferred to the Port Chester Police Department for one year before becoming a Westchester County Police Officer, where he would go on to be promoted to Detective in 1998. At the time of his passing, Robin was a Detective for the Westchester County Department of Public Safety. He took pride in his profession and shared his experience as an officer with his family. In January 2008, Robin’s life changed after an on-duty incident. His health began to decline shortly thereafter.
Robin will be missed for his infectious personality and his caring and generous heart. Robin loved to be the center of attention in any social gathering and would make you laugh and smile continuously. He would always help people, no matter who they were or their station in life.
Robin was joined in holy matrimony to Sonya Pressley on June 14, 1986, in the Bronx, and to this union was born their beloved son, Torrian J. Martin.
Robin was the tenth of eleven children born to the late Sherman and Melissa (Elliot) Martin. Also preceding him in death were his siblings: Carolyn Martin, Sandra Holley, Russell Martin, Kenny Martin, Vanessa Ward, Mark Martin and Michael Martin.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Sonya; his beloved son, Torrian J. Martin (Keisha Boykin) of Manchester, Connecticut; two adopted sons, Kemar Lowe of Yonkers, New York and Saleem Sullivan of Richmond, Virginia; two brothers, William Elliot (Yvonne) of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Charles A. Martin of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Michele Martin of Mount Vernon, New York; his mother- in- law, Mrs. Genevieve Pressley of Bronx, New York; his best friend Francis (Spud) Pride; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews; relatives and many many friends.
